Note from Pastor Alice

Dear Friends,
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!  I want to share with you, that after much work by our Conference Cabinet and consultation with our District Superintendent it has been decided for me to take a new appointment this year.  I will be leaving Osage City United Methodist Church and moving to Fredonia First United Methodist Church the end of June.
It has not been an easy decision.  There are so many wonderful people here at Osage City and it has been a true pleasure getting to know people and to watch ministries grow.   We’ve had our challenges that is for sure.  But in the midst of these challenges God has been at work.
I am excited about the future at Osage City.   I will miss being a part of it.  There is a good foundation to build on and people eager to learn and grow in doing God’s work, in being in mission.  So my prayers are with all of us as we go through this time of change and head into the future.
I invite all of us to be in prayer and anticipation too as our conference as a whole strives to work with our Bishop’s new initiative to be missional, to embrace the heart of our Mission Statement to share God’s love so the people can come to know Christ and serve as disciples for the healing of the world.  As well it is going to be a time of change and anticipation throughout the conference as the Way Forward Commission, working on the issue of full inclusion of the LGBTQ community, works toward their recommendation for the Special General Conference called for 2019.
Perhaps that is a reminder to us as United Methodists also to be intentionally at work to follow our founder John Wesley’s guide to do good, do no harm and keep the ordinances of God.
In the days to come our Staff Pastor Parish Relations committee will be working with Claudia Bakely, our District Superintendent as the Cabinet continues to work to discern who God is calling to continue the ministry here at Osage City.  Let’s all be in prayer for this process.
May God bless and guide us all and help us to do all we can to cooperate with each other for the good of the Kingdom!
     Yours in Christ,
     Rev. Dr. Alice Purvis
